Happy Canada Day everyone! As a Canadian woman, I have one of the freest, most privileged, and secure people in the world. I am rich with opportunity and support from my friends and family to pursue my life. I have never wondered where my next meal was coming from or gone to bed hungry. I have never been beaten or afraid for my life. I can travel freely from place to place, I have been provided a high quality education – supported by my government. I have received state of the art healthcare, I have never been denied a service based on my gender, my race, my age, or my geographical location.
Now I am not trying to brag, or make Canada out to be a paradise (although in many ways it really is), I am saying this because I want to celebrate my freedom – and make a commitment to every person on this planet, they deserves the basics – food to eat, shelter, education, healthcare, security, and the freedom to associate, say or do or support whatever they want. I hope that in my way I will be able to support people from around the world in their fights to have all the things I was privileged enough to receive. We should all be this lucky.
We must unite and stand together, whether we can help pass information, stand beside our fellow citizens of the world, we should all work together to make sure we all can be as privileged as Canadians are.
